- Take 400mg three times a day for 5 days.
- Begin treatment as soon as you notice symptoms (e.g., tingling, pain, or sores).
- Swallow tablets whole with water; they can be taken with or without food.
- Take 400mg twice daily for 6–12 months.
- Aciclovir starts working immediately, with noticeable symptom improvement within 1–2 days
- It can shorten the healing time of sores by 4 days and reduce pain by 2 days compared to no treatment
- Suppressive therapy significantly decreases the frequency of outbreaks
