Treatment information
Premature ejaculation is common and often improves with a mix of approaches. After your assessment, your prescriber may discuss behavioural techniques, a topical anaesthetic spray or cream applied before sex, or a daily or when-needed SSRI tablet used under prescription for this purpose. Which is right for you depends on your history, your relationship context and any other medicines you take.
Prescription treatment is only supplied following a clinical assessment. If treatment is not clinically appropriate, you will not be charged for medication.
Treatment options
- Behavioural techniques and self-help, which your prescriber will explain first.
- Topical anaesthetic spray or cream used shortly before sex, to reduce sensitivity.
- SSRI tablets, a group of prescription medicines used daily or when needed for this purpose; suitability depends on your health and other medicines.
