Treatment information
Uncomplicated cystitis in women is often treated with a short antibiotic course, chosen by your prescriber from your symptoms, history and allergies. Not every case needs antibiotics, and some symptoms need a GP or urgent care instead, which is why every request goes through a clinical assessment. Drinking enough fluid and simple pain relief also help.
Prescription treatment is only supplied following a clinical assessment. If treatment is not clinically appropriate, you will not be charged for medication.
Treatment options
- A short antibiotic course, chosen by your prescriber from your history and any allergies.
- Self-care advice: fluids, simple pain relief and when to seek urgent care.
- Not for men, pregnancy, children, recurrent infections or fever and back pain, which need a GP.
